La
Vendémiaire was created in 1937
when two villages, Fleury d’Aude et Salles
d’Aude, decided to join forces to promote
a selection of fine wines. The name comes from the
month of September in the French Revolutionary calendar;
September being the month of the wine harvest. |
Our vineyard has
1100 hectares (2700 acres) of vines,
of which 450 are classed as Appellation d’Origine
Contrôlée (AOC) Terroir de La Clape.
The Clape hills were at one time an island and are
now a protected nature reserve. The name, la Clape,
comes from an Occitan word, Clapas, meaning heap
of stones. The hills look out over the beaches of
the Mediterranean resort of St. Pierre la Mer at
Narbonne-Plage. www.otfleury.com |
